Non-surgical dry needling therapy to reduce pain and improve mobility

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique that involves the insertion of thin, solid needles into specific trigger points or tissues within muscles to alleviate pain, reduce muscle tension, and improve function.  It may be recommended as part of your treatment plan.

Dry needling is not an injection, and no medication is used.  It is used to treat pain associated with trigger points, promote healing, and stimulate the nervous system.  The microtrauma caused by the insertion of needles can trigger the body's natural healing response. This may include the activation of the immune system and the production of growth factors, which can aid tissue repair and regeneration.

Treating trigger points with dry needling can stimulate the release of endorphins and other natural pain-relieving chemicals in the body, which can help reduce pain perception therefore reducing muscle tension.  Endorphins are natural chemicals produced by the body that act as neurotransmitters. They have pain-relieving properties and can create a sense of well-being and relaxation.

By reducing muscle tension and promoting relaxation, dry needling can lead to an improvement in joint mobility and range of motion. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with musculoskeletal conditions that limit their movement. Dry needling can help relax tense muscles by releasing muscular knots and trigger points. This can improve blood flow to the area and promote muscle relaxation, which can be particularly beneficial for individuals with muscle spasm or chronic muscle tightness.

Improved circulation from dry needling can enhance the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and facilitate the removal of waste products, promoting tissue healing.  It also can affect the nervous system by stimulating sensory nerve fibers. This stimulation can lead to the inhibition of pain signals and the promotion of muscle relaxation.

Overall dry needling can have a profound effect on your overall health and is an integral part of treatment along with other conservative methods.  Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions about dry needling.
